This piece was originally pen and ink with watercolor on cotton paper by artist Jessika Kearns.
From the artist:I'm inspired by plant symbolism and had this image in my head months ago, but wanted to make sure I chose the flora intentionally. Daisies represent innocence. Heliotrope represents devotion. Oak leaves are said to symbolize bravery. And petunias, here a wild petunia, are where it gets complicated. I chose them for symbolizing soothing presence, or a desire to be near someone who calms and comforts you. However, they also can symbolize resentment or hot anger. Finally, somehow, they can also represent the refusal to give up hope. To me, ultimately, this combination of meanings was everything. I wanted the flowers, and leaves, to represent what I'm feeling and what I think so many are feeling or at least hoping for in this moment. Be strong and have courage. Yee gu.aa yáx x’wán.
